Inlays and onlays are used to repair teeth that are too damaged for fillings but are not damaged enough to require a crown. An inlay is used for decayed areas between the cusps of a tooth. An onlay covers more area than an inlay and may cover one or more cusps. Inlays and onlays are made of a porcelain (tooth-colored) material to support, shape, strengthen, and protect the tooth.
