Frequently Asked Questions

Do you take my insurance?
We are able to bill any type of PPO insurance plans and we work hard to maximize any benefits for which you are entitled. If your insurance plan requires you to choose from a specific list of dentists, please contact your insurance company or human resource representative so that they can direct you to a provider that can bill out your insurance plan for you.
Do you take emergency patients?

We understand that when emergency situations arise, you need to be seen and treated promptly and with care. We are more than happy to assist in these situations. Many emergencies are treatable in our office on the same day that you call. We work with a team of specialists in the area for complex situations in order to achieve the best and most predictable outcomes. We are committed to offering a complete exam and a comprehensive treatment plan to avoid any unexpected emergencies.

How often should I brush and floss my teeth?

Brushing your teeth twice daily ensures that cavity causing plaque does not build up around the teeth and gums.  Flossing a minimum of once daily promotes healthy gums and strong teeth.  As important as frequency, technique is critical for best results.  Our doctors and hygienists will help tailor a daily schedule with you for maximum health.

Are antiseptic mouth rinses actually helpful?

Over-the-counter rinses can be helpful to reduce bacterial plaque and bad breath however, it should never be used as a substitution for daily brushing and flossing. Patients that are high risk for cavities or gum disease may be prescribed a prescription level rinse to lower risk and promote health.

What is TMJ syndrome and what are the benefits of treating it?

TMJ syndrome or Tempromandibular Joint dysfunction refers to a multitude of conditions that cause pain in the jaw joint and/or the muscles that move the jaw.  Symptoms include but are not limited to headaches, pain in the jaw, neck and/or face, clicking, popping, or grinding noises in the jaw joint, locking of the jaw, ringing in the ears, and many more. Treatment can reduce or eliminate these symptoms and prevent the condition from worsening.

Do you do same-day crowns?

Yes, in most cases, we can provide same day permanent crowns. We work with an excellent dental laboratory for situations requiring multiple crowns or certain materials.

Are x-rays safe?

X-rays help the doctor to diagnose and treatment plan conditions properly. Our patients will only receive an X-ray when it is necessary to create a treatment plan and when a patient is to receive treatment. Generally, the radiation received during a dental X-ray is small compared to other radiation sources. Dental X-rays use low doses of radiation compared to other sources. For example, daily background radiation, CT scans, annual doses of radiation from eating food, or even a flight from NY to LA, all have higher doses of radiation than dental X-rays.

Should I get my amalgam/metal fillings out?

According to the FDA, if the filling has no present decay or defect, the removal of an amalgam filling is not recommended. We frequently have patients that request to have amalgam fillings removed for esthetic or personal reasons. We are happy to assist with amalgam removal and replacement with safe and esthetic materials for our patients.

Is fluoride bad for you?
Over seventy years of research have lead the American Dental Association and other health institutes such as American Cancer Society, Environmental Protection Agency and Center for Disease Control to name a few, to support fluoride as safe and beneficial.  The enamel remineralization properties of fluoride are unmatched by any other method and it remains the gold standard for preventing tooth decay.  If you are interested in alternative preventive measures, please discuss options with the doctor.
